I think it’s pretty.. don’t you ? New Carb, New Flame Arrestor (i bought for a customer who decided not to buy it), his loss. |
Here’s the engine with the New Sierra Marine Camshaft installed with New Matched HD Timing gears, I could actually pump engine oil by hand, just by turning the top of the distributor shaft ( with the drive gear removed ) this is my Inline 6 Oil Primer. The valve and side covers were previously polished.. I’ll take them back off another time and re-polish them and maybe seal or have them powder coated or anodized, depends on what I have the $$ or not. |

You can see the new wood is installed (just dropped it in) not yet screwed in place or holes drilled. The inside of the transom was sanded, ZC Primered and 3M 5200 was plastered onto the trouble spots. |
An aft view of the transom, I only painted one side.. I probably should’ve done a speckled paint, but used a couple cans of the Mercruiser Black I had around.. It took very nicely to the CPES and didn’t soak into the wood at all, and the paint isn’t going to flake or chip off anytime soon. I can still speckle it if I want. |

Moeller FT4033 40 Gallon Poly Fuel Tank, if you look close you can see some black rubber on the side, the tank is actually sitting on a bed of roofing rubber I got for free, I need to remove the tank though as I forgot to fix the water drain on one of the ribs, Other pictures show the tank is fully plumbed. I just need to get some good wire and run it to the gauge, I’m going to run a pair the whole way. I hope when the tank swells it doesn’t hurt itself on the stringers, it’s a little snug at one end. |
The Gimbal housing went in firmly, I did have to make some modifiaction (chiseling) on either side of the steering arm to allow full port/starboard throw. The housing and transom is sealed with a New gasket and 3M 5200 on both sides of the gasket, then along the length top and bottom. I also put some 3M 5200 just inside the transom cut-out between the wood and aluminum. |

The steering tube was damaged when it was removed so the transom plate could be media blasted. I was able to replace it with a peice of aluminum tube from a local metal shop for $10.00, then it was simply re-threaded at a machine shop I know, but some hardware stores could have the same pipe thread. Now I have a NEW and clean Steering tube, all that I had to do was put a clamp on the grease wiper.. The transom plate was media blasted to remove corrosion then ZC Primered then painted with Mercruiser Black, though I wish I painted it Red. |
The front of the engine is sitting on a new peice of 2x6 that was immersed in Thompsons Premium Water Seal ( I didn’t have any CPES ) and when I installed the engine it is now very very close to being perfectly aligned, I dont think i could get it any better. Notice how close the back end of the fuel tank is? - Perfect !!! |

installed the wood brace above the engine that goes across the transom, had to trim the ends a little ( 1/4" each side) so it would go back in a little easier |
installed the wood brace in the cabin (what a PITA), added some camper closed cell foam to the cabin roof supports, i decided to use the metal brace I used previously, I was able to get it installed without much trouble except for 2 little tears which I applied superglue to, to seal and protect. I will need some lighting replacements. |
|
Installed the new dedicated depth gauge where the starboard fuel gauge was (bottom right) |
Cut 2 new side boards 8’ instead of covering the old rotted 12’ peices, notice the 2 speaker cutouts, I will also be adding 2 deck lights (1 on each side) and covering with the same Marine Vinyl I used on the cabin and aft deck supports.
|
Covered the new PORT sideboard with Blue Vinyl Installed 1 Blaupunkt Speaker and Deck Light |
Here showing the back side, notice the dark color of the wood? That’s from the Behr Premium Water Sealant.. let’s hope it holds up for a couple years. |
